Seersucker pants for Brady + a giveaway!

My amazingly talented friend, McKay Pittman of Oatmeal Lace Design came over last weekend to teach me something I’ve always been afraid to try.

Sewing.

Yikes. Sewing machines remind me of some weird machine that might blow up or take off or melt if I press the wrong button. While our husbands grilled and our little boys entertained each other, we poured a glass of chardonnay and went to town. We sewed Bryan an M&M pouch (he LOVES M&Ms and it was all I could think to call the little pocket we sewed). Bryan didn’t think I could do it and so I couldn’t wait to SHOW him.

So today, after our weekly walk along the trail near my house with the boys, McKay came over to help me sew my first real project: seersucker pants for my little Southern man who’s learning to walk. (No steps yet, but they’re just around the corner!) All of his pants are too long, so I wanted some cute little “cropped” pants that were long enough and short enough. Make sense?

McKay is a WIZ at this stuff. She helped me cut the fabric, sew each seam, measure Brady and create the elastic waistband and cuffs. Once we got them on him, they were PERFECT!! The total cost (thanks to McKay for lending me her sewing machine!) was $6.23 (the seersucker was 30% off at Joann’s + the elastic = $6.23!) This is the pattern we used (we altered it just a tad to eliminate the button and turn the cuff to the outside). Its from the book Weekend Sewing by Heather Ross.

Brady loves them and isn’t tripping on his pants trying to learn to walk anymore. Now this boy just needs a shirt on! : ) And mama needs some MAKEUP!

Sidenote: Oatmeal Lace is such a great place to buy bibs and burp clothes (AND RIDICULOUSLY CUTE DIAPER BAGS!! I’m on the waiting list!) We have eight thousand (no really) bibs and McKay’s are our absolute favorite. She backs them with terry cloth and they’re super absorbent – especially if your little one likes to eat/wear messy foods like mine does.

How did I get Brady to pose for all these photos, you ask? Well, goldfish. Yes, yummy processed cheesy goldfish. They apparently also lured Briggs into the picture. : ) We’ll go back to fresh blueberries for snack time.In honor of my very first sewing project, McKay has offered to give away TWO super cute bibs to one lucky reader!! Check out handsome Beckett below in her new chevron bib!

I NEED THESE BIBS!!! With my little boy due in May, I’ve been prowling Baby Gap and Old Navy. Also hit up the consignment shop, they have adorable clothes!

I haven’t been to Old Navy in AGES. I need to try there for cute plain t-shirts for him. “Mommy’s Memories” – a mother/daughter duo in Pensacola sewed/appliqued some shorts/tshirts for Brady recently. They should be arriving tomorrow! I was desperately hunting down inexpensive plain t-shirts. Old Navy never crossed my mind! Next time we’ll try there! Thanks for the tip, B! Hope you and your little boy (and precious girl!) are doing WONDERFUL! xo Emily

I NEED THESE BIBS!!! I love shopping at a local childrens clothing store called Favorite Laundry. I also really like zulilly.com for great deals on all sorts of stuff!

    • emily commented:

Favorite Laundry!! What an AWESOME name! That is so cute! Zullily is awesome but I can hardly EVER find any cute boy’s clothes there. Do you? Your little one is SO CUTE. xoxo Emily

I NEED THOSE BIBS! Well, my niece does. My favorite source for kids’ clothes is http://courtneychu.blogspot.com/ – although she mostly does girls’ clothes.

I NEED these bibs! So adorable. We find out Baby Sizemore’s gender in two weeks and either way I know I’ll be purchasing some cute smocked dresses or John john’s from http://www.shrimpandgritskids.com. Love Brady’s seersucker pants. Great job, mama!

Love, love the photos of him with your dog – very very cute!!! We don’t have a baby (yet!), but have been buying plenty of baby things for friends over the last couple of years, so even though I can’t really enter this contest, I will tell you that one of my favorite places to get baby gifts is Etsy and within that a shop called Bubby Makes Three – a work at home mama who is growing a very creative kids clothing business and has awesome customer service!

I NEED THESE BIBS! Olivia is such a drooler…sometimes I have to double bib her. I shop everywhere for her. I love Kohl’s for cute inexpesive clothes that are okay if she drools all over them. I just found Sugiebaby.com for her 1st Birthday outfit, and I am totally in love with them now.

    I NEED THESE BIBS!!

So cute. We’re going through bibs like crazy around here! It seems that Little Miss is starting to sprout some teeth.

My favorite place to buy her clothes? Janie + Jack, Baby Gap, and Carters. Having a little girl means I shop *all the time*.

I NEED THOSE BIBS! Since we are only 17 weeks I haven’t done any purchasing, just looking around. Target has some really cute clothes and I plan on visiting some local consignment shops, too. I have also found some really cute patterns for baby outfits and I plan to make some. I have attempted some outfits previously with either myself or others and have had really good results so I’m hoping to have the same results with baby clothes!

  14. Samantha commented:

I NEED THESE BIBS! We are expecting our first child and have absolutely NOTHING for it. We went to a specialty baby store the other day and were so overwhelmed by all of the options – we just walked out!

    • emily commented:

SO EXCITED FOR YOU!!! It is overwhelming, but don’t worry – soon you’ll be speaking the language!

  15. Belinda commented:

Do you ever have enough bibs when little boys are involved?? No never!
I love to shop from the” mini Boden “catalog occasionally.
    http://www.bodenusa.com

Also, Target has some of the cutest clothes for children…price points are good…trendy and classics without breaking the bank. Going into debt for clothes that will be outgrown in months or ruined from creative play makes no sense to me.

  16. Megan commented:

I NEED THESE BIBS!! Not for myself (no babies yet) but my very best friend who is having her first baby in May and I think these are a must have for her!! I am so excited to meet her new bundle of joy this spring!

I NEED THESE BIBS (for a baby shower)!!! I am not a mom or pregnant myself, but it seems that all my girlfriends are! Whenever I want to buy their little darlings something cute, Target is my go-to store!

  20. Ginnean commented:

I NEED THESE BIBS! My baby girl has reflux like no other so I’m washing bibs like every other day!
